The Hatfields and McCoys were a perfect example of how to divide a town, and have families hate one another for generations. In the Crivitz, WI iteration, I think my family is maybe the McCoys, because the Hatfields had more money and land. In the original story the war between the families started over the Civil War. In the Northeast Wisconsin current War, one idiot decided to call the McCoy family middle daughter a child pornographer, and when he learned the truth, decided to make it far worse than it ever had to be. He and his family then sat back, and lied to everyone about what transpired, and never had the guts to say what actually happened. Momma Hatfield decided to further harm the girl’s reputation on Facebook. Grandpa and Grandma(Speedy) Hatfield went into full-on bully mode. The McCoy family and associates fought back viciously, as they had been harmed to the core. This bothered the Hatfields, because few ever dare to question them, and the feud was made worse. They cried innocence, and tried to be looked upon as the victim, instead of the instigators that they are.
The current hatred between these families is not going away anytime soon, and the divide in the town will remain for a long time. None of this was ever necessary, but for the petty jealousy and lies of the current Hatfields, and if they think they’ve won because a potentially bought-off judge made a bad ruling, they are wrong. I do hope the McCoys have made the Hatfields think about ever bullying the townspeople again. Maybe someday there will be a movie about the current story, but until then, Stay Tuned!
P.S As a side note for Mike and Pat, etc. , OJ lopped off two people’s heads and walked free, don’t fool yourselves in thinking that you’ve ever been right for a single minute!
